Asthma and COPD are chronic, heterogeneous inflammatory diseases of the lower airway associated with airflow obstruction, shortness of breath, and exacerbations, which are serious acute respiratory events marked by heightened respiratory symptoms. Exacerbations, despite advancements in care, persist as a significant challenge, leading to lung function decline, frequent hospitalizations, impaired quality of life, and increased mortality rates. Evidence suggests that up to 85% of moderate-to-severe asthma patients and up to 40% of COPD patients exhibit evidence of elevated type 2 inflammation. It is therefore important for healthcare professionals to understand the shared mechanisms among theses diseases, but also how they may manifest differently in patients requiring clinical care.
Please come and experience the ADVENT program on Monday, May 20, 2024, from 6:30-7:30 PM PT at the Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego, Seaport Ballroom FGH, for an educational symposium on the shared and unique pathophysiological features of type 2 inflammation-driven asthma and COPD and the real-world impact on patients.
Global experts Mario Castro, Nicola Hanania, and Stephanie Christenson will discuss pathomechanisms of epithelial barrier damage and dysfunction, processes of airway remodeling and associated lung function decline, and will share their own perspectives and experiences from clinical practice treating lower airway diseases with underlying type 2 inflammation. The symposium will conclude with an interactive Q&A with our distinguished faculty, so please come ready with any questions you may have.
At this year’s congress, the ADVENT program will also be hosting a meet-the-expert event at Booth 1418 on Monday, May 20, 2024, at 10:30 AM PT. Visit the ADVENT booth in the convention center to hear more from the renowned faculty about the role of type 2 inflammation in the pathophysiology of COPD.
