The annual patient and family education event, now in its 18th year, is free to attend and will take place on Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. PT at the Manchester Grand Hyatt. This year’s theme is, “The Future of Lung Health.”

“We are in the technology era, and we want to bring that conversation to the forefront,” said ATS President M. Patricia Rivera, MD, ATSF.

In the first two hours of the forum, speakers will share their expert insights on:

  • Innovative (Emerging) Technology, Josh Fessel, MD, PhD.
  • Artificial Intelligence, Cedric “Jamie” Rutland, MD.
  • Regenerative Medicine, Jennifer Sucre, MD.
  • Patient Perspective, Terry Wright.
  • Patient Advocate, Michele Wright, PhD.
  • Gene-Based Therapy, Marrah Lachowicz-Scroggins, MD.

“We have brilliant speakers coming in. These are experts who are passionate about their studies, and they will be at the forum in San Diego in person to bring awareness and to share their knowledge,” Dr. Rivera said. “It will be filled with excellent information, and we have a patient speaker who is an activist advocating for himself and others.”

Breakout discussions with experts brought in by the PAR members and a complimentary lunch will follow the presentations.

“The PAR activities are catered to our patients. Through events like the Patients & Experts Forum, we want to be able to spread as much information as we can to our patients for their resources,” Dr. Rivera said. “People come to the International Conference from many different locations around the world, with questions, and this event is an opportunity to meet experts in their disease.”

Along with patients, caregivers, and respiratory health professionals are encouraged to attend.

“It’s also for student scholars to ask questions, to understand what it is like to be in a medical field and a research field, and have that human connection with a patient,” Dr. Rivera said. “All the research they do will benefit somebody. It will save lives. And that’s a heartwarming feeling.”

There is no cost to attend the Patients & Experts Forum and lunch, but an RSVP is required by emailing [email protected] or [email protected].
