Refractory chronic cough (RCC) is a disease identified in a subset of people who experience chronic cough (lasting > 8 weeks) despite adequate treatment of cough-related etiologies.^1-3 RCC may be associated with neuronal hypersensitivity, which is driven by the dysregulation of cough-signaling components.^3-9

The pathway to diagnosis of RCC is complex and often lengthy, with numerous specialist visits, prolonged diagnostic testing, and trials of therapies.^10,11 Increased awareness of RCC may support earlier identification and diagnosis of individuals living with RCC.¹⁰
